01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Located at the scenic Schloßwiese 1 in the charming town of Ratzeburg, Eis Pavillon Pelz is much more than just an ice cream shop – it’s a beloved local institution where café culture meets lakeside relaxation. As a delightful hybrid of an ice cream shop, café, and coffee spot, it masterfully balances the charm of homemade delights with a welcoming atmosphere that invites both locals and visitors to linger.

One of the true highlights at Eis Pavillon Pelz is undoubtedly their handcrafted ice cream, which many patrons, like Jan Nupnau, rave about as “superb.” Each scoop bursts with rich, authentic flavors that vividly bring a smile with every taste – whether you're indulging in classic vanilla or exploring more adventurous seasonal varieties. Paired with the gentle lake breeze and the café’s open, airy setting, enjoying an ice cream here feels like a small blissful retreat.

While the location boasts a prime spot right on the lake, providing enchanting water views that enhance the overall experience, the proximity to the main street adds a lively urban backdrop. Some visitors have noted this contrast; however, it contributes to the vibrant energy of the place. Whether settling in for a quick coffee or savoring a slowly enjoyed cone, Eis Pavillon Pelz offers a charming balance between lively and relaxed ambiances.

The service consistently earns praise for its friendliness and attentiveness, as Stella The. reflects on the courteous staff who answered all questions with care, and rapid delivery of orders – “our ice cream arrived in less than five minutes.” This dedication to customer satisfaction shines through, making every visit feel personal and well-cared for.

Moreover, the café’s welcoming vibe is a perfect summertime escape, as Benji describes: “Summer, sun, and a refreshing ice cream – simply wonderful.” The possibility to unwind and watch the world go by, often alongside other visitors or even local motorcycle gatherings, reinforces Eis Pavillon Pelz as a social hub where memories are made.

That said, prospective guests should be aware that recent price adjustments have made the treats a bit pricer, yet the quality and experience continue to justify the investment. As Jens Biertz happily confirms, it’s not just about the ice cream but the entire atmosphere that makes return visits a must.

For anyone seeking a slice of authentic German ice cream culture in a picturesque setting, complemented by excellent service and a friendly crowd, Eis Pavillon Pelz is a quintessential stop. Its blend of homemade flavors, lakeside views, and warm hospitality crafts an experience that lingers in the heart long after the last scoop.

This has always been a family favorite, but nostalgia aside: top location, top ice cream, top everything. Order the banana split or the strawberry one. Just trust me on this.
